Product Overview

The REV Robotics Smart Robot Servo (SRS) is configurable metal-geared servo that takes the guesswork out of aligning and adjusting servo based mechanisms. One SRS can be used as a standard angular servo, a custom angular servo, and a continuous rotation servo by simply changing its settings.

Update: This now does 300 degree programmable instead of 180.

Default Operation
Out of the box, the SRS operates like a standard 180° servo, responding to a 500μs – 2500μs RC servo pulse.

Smart Features
Unlocking the smart features is simple with the REV SRS Programmer (am-3218 – sold separately).
  • Angular Mode
  • With the press of a button, the SRS Programmer can set custom angular limits without removing the SRS from the mechanism. These custom limits eliminate the need to fiddle with servo horns or linkages.

  • Continuous Rotation Mode
  • With the flip of a switch on the SRS Programmer, the SRS can switch from angular mode to continuous rotation mode. The SRS saves time and money by preventing the permanent modification of standard servos.
Kit ContentsController Compatibility
The SRS has a wide input signal range that some controllers may not be able to produce. Additionally, the output pulse may be abstracted behind several layers of code so that it is unclear what the pulse actually is. If motion over the full 180° isn’t seen, check the pulse width produced by the controller.

    REV Smart Servo

The only reason my rating is a 4 instead of a 5 is because the item was out of stock (and we needed it yesterday). Other than that, we like the fast shipping, and no outrageous surcharge to Alaska. The servos seem to be tough, and working well!

    Almost

This could be a great servo if the Limits were completely configurable, but you can only "reduce" the range of motion, you can't move the range to the begin 180 away from the default position, for example. It would be an awesome piece of equipment if you could slap the horn on anywhere and move the apparatus to the Open position, press button, and move it to Close position and press button. But you can't. You have to get the horn on the spline so that your 0 position is as desired. sigh. disappointment. Otherwise a nice servo and ability to reconfigure for continuous rotation is nice. (REV Robotics Response 1/9/2018: Thank you for your input, we will take your feedback into consideration when considering future upgrades of this product.)

    "Great servo, crap plastic horn"

"The servo is a powerful little piece, of that there is no doubt. But it comes with plastic components that wear out almost instantly because of the power of the servo. If you buy these, you really need the aluminum servo horns that are sold by REV. AndyMark, if you read this, I would start stocking those servo horns as well. (Or potentially even sell them as a package deal) (AndyMark response: Thank you for this feedback and suggestion.)"

The servos are very powerful, in fact, too powerful for the plastic adapters that come with them. We stripped the teeth off the plastic piece on three different servos.

Interesting! Be sure to buy the little programmer am-3218 with it. Just messing around, somebody set it to continuous rotation... Fairly strong (~150 oz.in). So this one servo could wiggle a flipper 60 degrees or replace a continuously rotating gearmotor... I need to do a little datasheet studying.
