Product Overview
The CIM Sport is a competition tested high-performance line of planetary gearboxes from AndyMark and BaneBots. The CIM Sport features numerous improvements over previous planetary gearboxes used on FIRST Robotics Competition robots.
The cold-formed steel gears inside this gearbox are a 0.7 Module tooth profile which is 40% larger than the vast majority of planetary gearbox gears previously used on competition robots. The gears are larger, but the housing's size has been optimized to reduce any unnecessary volume. This means you get more reliability without sacrificing precious space. This housing is also one solid piece of aluminum, ensuring that there is no possibility for misalignment of the stages during assembly or during the rigors of match play.
Both the two- and three-stage versions of these gearboxes also feature an "HD" stage, with gears approximately double the face width of the other stages as well as a strengthened carrier plate. These larger gears on the output stage ensure that it will handle heavy or cantilevered loads without worry. The carrier plates are made of hardened 4140 steel and interface to the output shaft with a robust hex bore. New for 2019 we are opening up the use of every available gear ratio with every available motor input meaning there are some combinations that could theoretically exceed the gearboxes design characteristics. As such the blanket warranty we offered on these gearboxes in the past will be discontinued for future purchases. Rest assured that AndyMark still stands behind our product 100% and if you feel that there is a problem with your gearbox or any of our products please contact us and we will make it right. To help you decide which gearboxes to use for your application please reference the below table which includes the maximum torque that the gearbox is designed to take before it will fail.
A free packet of red tacky grease (am-2768) is included with every gearbox purchased. This grease must be used to coat every internal surface of the gearbox before use.
The CIM Sport includes mounting hardware for any CIM style motor including the CIM, or the NEO. To install the motor, first remove any installed pinion from the motor and press on the included pinion gear using an arbor press or bench vice. This press-fit ensures a solid mechanical connection between the pinion gear and the motor. This pinion assembly is not susceptible to vibration and never needs to be checked once installed. All ratios of Blue Sport Gearboxes use a 4:1 input stage, with the same tooth count pinion, so motors and gearboxes can be switched out with ease.
The CIM Sport also includes the optional alternative short back block (am-3769a). This can be used to shorten any ratio of the gearbox by 0.87 in. and lighten it by ~0.2lb. To use this back block the CIM output shaft must be cut down by 0.87 in. and the pinion pressed onto this shortened shaft. For detailed instructions please see the Motor Installation Guide under the downloads tab.

Tough Gearbox, but Doesn't Fit Latest Motors
We've been using CIM Sports since 2018, and they have been tough and reliable. That is, until 2023 when Rev released the NEO 1.1. Rev changed the shaft tolerance on the latest NEO motors, so the CIM Sport pinion no longer press fits on reliably. I'm hoping Andymark updates the CIM Sport to use an 8mm keyed (rather than press-fit) pinion, and maybe adds a Kraken spline version too, so that this excellent gearbox stays relevant in FRC.

CIM sport gearbox 4:1
I bought two sport gearboxes, one is fine, the other not so good and makes a fair amount of noise at one point in the rotation as if a tight spot exists, I am looking for alternatives for this project.

Worked well but instructions were quite confusing
The manual should include another reminder that the first gear needed to be forced on using a vice.

In my opinion, it can include mounting bolts.

Amazing purchase
We used these on our climb this year and after a heavy dose of loctite 609 we got a 7 second traversal. Amazing design!
