Product Overview

Product Overview:This is a simple brass extruded adapter for the PG gearmotors. The intent of this part is to go over the PG71, 27, and 188 output shaft, making the perimeter geometry of the shaft to be 1/2 in. diameter with a 1/8 in. machine key. This sleeve is a tight fit over the shaft. It can be held in place by a 3/8 in. id retaining ring, for help please see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-6ob_uILi0

Usage and Installation:There is a tight fit onto the shaft when installing this adapter, often to the point that the brass will peel away when pushing the adapter onto the shaft. This will help keep the part in place. When using the 1/2 in. Key Hub (am-0077a) or another 1/2 in. bore, keyed item, we suggest to press in the adapter to the hub first, and then press the hub/adapter assembly onto the shaft. When pressing on to the shaft, a bit of brass will peel away, resulting in a snug fit.

    Shaft adapter

Initial purchase did not meet expectations. I filed down the protruding key to fit my 1/2" diameter pully. The 10mm shaft had a flat which accommodated the shaft adapter to slide on the shaft. However when the adapter was forced on to the 10mm shaft, it made the outer 1/2" adapter diameter larger, and it would not allow the pulley to fit. I purchased the following item instead (am-0333 1.152 in. ID 0.442 in. OD 0.5 in. Brass Spacer) which provided the necessary difference in the 10mm shaft to the 1/2" pulley. I am thankful that both parts were available from Andymark, and thankful too for their prompt delivery.

    "Doesn't fit properly"

"While the bore is 10mm, the inner keyway is a few thousandths too wide, making it useless unless you hack at it with a dremel (as one reviewer suggested) or open up the keyway on your motor shaft with an end mill. Otherwise, it beats fabbing your own from scratch. (AndyMark Response 2/9/15: The method for attaching this adapter, as listed in the product description, calls for a tight fit. This is so that the adapter is snug on the gearbox output shaft.)"

    "does not fit"

"Do not try to force the sleeve in a hub and the motor shaft at the same time! Inner key which was supposed to fit inside the pg71 shaft was way to big for the key slot and needed to be dremeled down before attempting to fit it in. Since the dremel work and filing was done by hand the sleeve became loose and caused inaccuracies in driving the motor. (AndyMark Response: We recommend using the above usage and installation method which is listed on this webpage.)"

not the size I was hoping for

hoped this would fit from a cim motor to a standard 500 hub, but is not the internal diameter of a cim motor. (AndyMark Response: This part is designed to attached to PG motors, or any 10mm shaft, the CIM motor has a 0.313 or about 8mm shaft)

    "Avoid this"

"Problem is the key that fits into the motor side is not square.. it simply does not fit. Once you mash it on, it slips like crazy, and being made of brass, it shears off with ease. This does not work other than for the lightest duty applications, and not without some major adjustments, and frustration."

    "Don't waste your money"

"Like many other teams we purchased these hoping they would be a solution to an Andy Mark created problem, however we had no such luck. Shaft key way was undersized and adapter was oversized. We pressed the adapter on, assembled our mechanism and tested. The brass was so soft that under load it gave way causing a ton of backlash. This is an Andy Mark created problem because a 4mm key in a 10mm shaft is not a standard size. You cannot buy a broach/ bushing to create a corresponding 4mm key in a part. The only answer is this subpar adapter, or to find a sponsor with a wire EDM machine to cut some proper sized steel adapters. Please Andy Mark either redesign the output shafts on the wonderful planetary boxes or sell a steel wire EDM cut adapter."

"While the concept is good the product has provine useless. It will not attach to the Andaymark gear box. Our team has always had to remachine andymark parts to fit properly. We were hoping this has changed. However, see nothing has changed very disappointed. Should sell parts that do not need adaprts."

    "Poorly designed"

"Like other reviewers who actually tried this product - it didn't fit on the 10mm shaft w/ 4 mm keyway for a PG71. The reason why? Like many products on AndyMark it was poorly designed. In this case the part was machined to the correct size, then plated for absolutely no reason whatsoever making it a few thousands too large on all dimensions. This means it won't fit the 4mm key way or over the shaft. The only solution is to use sandpaper or a dremel to remove the plating and then try it. Alternately you can hammer it in place then adjust with pliers and/or heat to get it to fit pretty well. Kind of a waste for something that should work out of the box. Also $10 is a little steep. As usual, disappointing AndyMark. I will be asking for a refund."

    Poor fit

While this is an essential adapter for the PG71 gearmotor, the inside key is too large to fit the key way on the motor shaft. Pressing it on spreads the adapter. The solution is to lightly file the sides of the internal key.

This last batch didn't fit right.

I haven't talked to AndyMark about this yet...been too busy building the robot. That fact might make this review unfair. We ordered two of these sleeves and they didn't fit right. We ended up just ordering smaller ID hubs instead. We have used these in the past and they worked great then, not sure if this was a bad batch or what...Maybe it was just us. I'll call AndyMark about it when I get time.
