Product Overview

Product Usage:

All AndyMark gearboxes require grease for proper operation and long life. We suggest using our red tacky grease, am-2768. We also encourage that the user powers the gearbox continuously for 30 minutes without grease to allow the gear teeth to wear in. While we do design with short run times in mind, this 'run in' period for smooth gearbox operation, is recommended. Once this is completed, thoroughly grease the gear teeth periodically to ensure smooth operation.

Official 2008-2010 FRC Kit of Parts Gearbox

This gearbox is shipped in kit form, not assembled. The Toughbox contains the hardware to accept up to two CIM Motors or two NEO Brushless Motors. Falcon 500 Motors can be used but a replacement pinion must be purchased separately.

Weight Reduction with Optional Parts:
Aluminum 50 Tooth Large Output Gear can replace the Steel 50 Tooth Large Output Gear (0.28 lb reduction)

Additional Encoder:
An optional Encoder Package can be purchased and added to this Toughbox. If you already have a US Digital Encoder to fit this Toughbox, this Encoder Mount Pad will help you mount the encoder to the Toughbox. A very complete guide for encoder installation and alignment is shown on the Encoder Package page.

Optional Output Shaft:
Any Toughbox Clasic Output Shaft can be used to replace the shaft that comes standard in this gearbox. If you are choosing a hex output shaft you will need to additionally purchase a 1/2" Hex Bearing to replace the round bearing on the standard output shaft.

    "14:1 My Favorite Ratio"

"The standard 12:1 ratio works great, but the 14:1 ratio really gives an edge in acceleration and pushing force. I know, I know "it slows you down", but how long do you ever spend a peak velocity? Not nearly as much time as you do speeding up and slowing down. We did the math and 14:1 is my favorite ratio."

    "Toughbox Gearbox"

"Our motor and gearbox are stationary. This is not a FIRST Application, as students are using the equipment to run a small conveyor belt. This gear reducer is as loud as rocks rolling in a metal coffee can on a Greyhound bus with a bad muffler. It does transmit power, just very loudly. We assembled it in accordance with the YouTube video and the instruction sheet. We applied white lithium grease to all gear teeth (there was no grease recommendation in the instructions)."
