Product Overview

This is the official FIRST Tech Challenge Perimeter. This perimeter may be referenced as am-0481, am-0481a, or am-0481b in documentation. This is reusable from year to year and does not include soft tiles, game-specific hardware, components, or game pieces. This "b" revision is compatible with the previous "a" revision, meaning "b" version corners and panels can be used as replacement in "a" version perimeters.

The perimeter is comprised of eight hinged panels and four straight panels. Once assembled, the perimeter creates an 11 feet 9 inch by 11 feet 9 inch square enclosure. The hinged corners and quick release pins make for easy assembly, requiring no tools. Side panels include a built-in wire way for easy cable management.

An adjustable Perimeter Strap (am-2270a) placed under this playing surface help keep the walls square during game play.

Included Hardware:
What’s New?

The fastening method for fixing the polycarbonate sheets to the aluminum rails has changed. The previous mechanical press fit has been removed, and rivets now hold the polycarbonate sheet in place. Each Panel (am-2160b) is now comprised of two toothless aluminum extrusion rails (am-2556a), one sheet of 3 mm polycarbonate (am-2582a), and six rivets (am-1226).

We have made this change to make the panels more consistent, as well as to allow for our customers to replace pieces of a panel as needed.

Additional Perimeter Panels (not included):
Corner Assemblies consist of two panels attached with hinges. Individual Panels and corner assemblies are available as Panels am-2160b and am-2600b respectively. If you wish to build a custom size arena for non tournament use, combine any number of corner assemblies or panels using two Field Links (am-2580a) and four Quick Release Pins per intersection.

Field Flooring & Soft Tiles (not included):
FIRST Tech Challenge tournaments are conducted inside this perimeter kit with Soft Tiles making up the floor. These are not included with the perimeter kit, but are available as a Full Field Set of Soft Tiles (am-2499-36) or as individual Soft Tiles (am-2499).

Storage and Transportation (not included):
This perimeter and soft tiles that are available separately can be stored and transported easily in bags designed specifically for them. Two Panel Bags (am-2313a) fit a standard tournament size perimeter. Two Soft Tile Bags (am-2500b) fit a tournament's set of soft tiles, each holding eighteen tiles.

Shipping:
This perimeter will ship in two 52 inch x 14 inch x 8 inch boxes, each 40 pounds. The total weight for this product, both boxes included, is 80 pounds.

Not Included:
Soft tiles for field flooring are not included within the perimeter kit. This perimeter kit does not include any game-specific hardware, components, or game pieces.

Be aware: may need a drill and file to fully assemble. Almost half of the pin holes were too small. We had to redrill them so they were large enough for the lock pins to even fit. We also had to file a few spots so that the bar slid in properly to align the holes. Once assembled, the field functioned as needed.

    Great Kit

We were using a DIY set up but this really helps us be consistent in our preparations. It is well built and should last a long time.

    Expensive for what it is

Over half of the openings where the link slides in needed opening adjusted. Could not afford unless someone else paid for this.

We inboxed and assembled our perimeter last night. It was well protected in the boxes do we were surprised to gind 2 of the lower rail slots bent st the corners. It looked like the were dropped at some point. We were able to straighten them with pliers. We had a little difficulty getting all the lower pins to lock in place. I think that could be because the floor needs to be absolutely level for the holes to line up. It was fairly easy to assemble since there are only pins and no nuts and bolts to deal with. It would be easier to square it up if you lay out the field tiles, slip the tension straps under them and then assemble the walls.
