Product Overview

A string potentiometer is a great way to detect position and travel for a robot mechanism. Spring-tension inside the enclosure ensures the string retracts as your mechanism does.

Note: The color of the enclosure will vary.

This design is credited to Team Appreciate FRC team 2468, who developed and used this idea on their competition robots.

Included Hardware: Note: With the retractable string provided, you will only be able to get about eight to nine turns out of the ten turn potentiometer. To get the full range, use the spring from the retractable string component and a 30" string instead.
Assembled Version using modified FRC Team 2468 3D Print Files

    Bad product

Ordered 3 for use on telescoping arms, didn't expect to unpack a 3d printed product. Not only was the quality of build poor, the string winding portion would break after one or two pulls and required me to pull apart the assembly and manually wind the potentiometer. Not worth the purchase, if you or your team are looking to buy a string pot spend the extra on a better quality one.

    Assembled String Potentiometer

Performed as advertised. Was easy to set up (creating a 3-wire Analog wire for Roborio and do a little programming).

    Broken out of the package

Bought 2. Didn’t realize it would be 3D printed part. First one pulled string one time and it stayed out. Second one wasn’t giving reliable readings. Went with another type of sensor.

Quality OK. I would have designed mounting base much larger to incorporate 4 screws and made housing thicker for unanticipated abuse.

Got two, installed as steeringangle sensors, they work great and you can't beat the price
