FIRST Robotics Competition playing field usage for 2012

AndyMark is coordinating the usage of the 2012 FIRST Rebound Rumble playing field. This field is located in Kokomo, Indiana, with the intention to be used at several off-season events.

Costs of using the field:

• $800 Field Use and Reservation Fee

  This reserves the field for your event and helps pay for transporting parts of the field to Indiana from St. Louis in April and from Indiana to Manchester in November.

• Event Transportation Fee: $2.00 per mile

  AndyMark can bring the field to your event in our truck for a cost of $2.00 per mile traveled. If it seems appropriate to make alternative shipping arrangements we can work with you to do this.

What is provided as part of this field rental?

AndyMark can provide the following items for the competition:

• Enough Gaffers tape for field use only
• Zip ties to mount field hardware and wiring
• Carpet
• A full set of field electronics, including the referee touch panels
• A trained FTA to run the field at your event
• The tools, ladders, and hardware needed to assemble the field
• 2012 Game Pieces (at an additional cost)

We WILL NOT provide your competition with:

• Spare Gaffers/Duct Tape for queuing areas, signs, non-field equipment If you are interested in buying some gaff tape for your event you can purchase it at one of these locations: www.findtape.com, www.uline.com, www.tapestockonline.com
• A practice field/bridge
• A/V Equipment (see below for details on interfacing A/V equipment with the FMS system)
• Labor to help assemble the field

To use this field, you must:

1. Contact our Operations Manager Brant Bowen brant@andymark.com, to check availability of the field for your weekend and get a list of questions regarding how you intend to use the field.

2. Fill out and fax FIRST's required documents to Lori Burkhamer at FIRST (603-666-3907)

All field users must be approved by FIRST HQ in Manchester. Users must fill out documents for FIRST, located on the Invitational Tournament Criteria portion of the FIRST website. The documents you are required to fill out are located under the documents section of this website.

Interfacing with the FMS System

• The FMS system has component or VGA out for a video mixer to add the live video with live score.
• The FMS system also comes with a laptop with a VGA output for the standings screen, usually located in the pit area.  If the pits are in a different room than the pit display, an Ethernet line will need to be supplied from the scoring table to this laptop as well.
• The FMS system has a standard 3.5mm audio jack for field sound output.

Interested in having a smaller competition and don't need a whole field?

Software from FIRST is available, to be used at events without a full field setup.

• FMS Light is for robot control only.
• FMS Delta has all the same features as the standard FMS Software (schedule generation, match review, etc.)

An alternative to using this field is to build a lower cost field out of wood. We have a complete design available for anyone to use, if they wish. The raw material cost to make this field border is approximately $1000. This cost does not include the polycarbonate, the 2012-specific game elements, or any of the field electronics.
