Product Overview:
4 inch, HEAVY DUTY Mecanum wheel set, these come assembled as shown in the picture. This is a set of 4 wheels, consisting of 2 "right" wheels and 2 "left" wheels. All 4 wheels are required to make a Mecanum drive holonomic system to work properly. This version of the wheel can handle a 100 pound load per wheel. The interior body of this wheel is made of molded black poycarbonate, while the perimeter side plate is made of 1/8 inch thick steel, zinc plated. The perimeter plate is riveted to the interior body, and each perimeter bent tab rests on the interior body rim. This support allows for the wheel to handle more load.

Roller and Axle Design:
The gray urethane rubber roller (am-3027) has a durometer rating of 77a. The roller has a Nylon core, and rides on a stationary brass tube.

Wheel Structure:
9 rubber rollers are sandwiched between 2 steel plates. The steel plates are riveted to two interior polycarbonate hubs, which form the interior of the wheel. The two interior pieces are held together by the fastening technique of the rollers being attached.

These wheels can be purchased individually as Left (am-3026L) or Right (am-3026R) wheels. They are sold without hubs, sprockets, or bearings.

Usage:
With Axle and Hub: If driven by a shaft, these parts are needed for each wheel
  • A hub fitting the size of the drive shaft. For 1/2" dia. shafts, use a 500 Key Hub (am-0077a) for each wheel.
  • #10-24 thread-forming screws are used to fasten a hub to the wheel (we suggest 6).
  • 1/8 x 1/8 x 3/4 steel machine key (am-1043) is needed, one per wheel
With Sprocket: If driven by a sprocket, these parts are needed for each wheel
  • Flanged ball bearings (qty. 2) with 1.125" od: either 3/8" inside diameter (am-0209), or 1/2" i.d. (am-0181)
  • A sprocket (type A) with a bolt hole circle of 1.875" diameter mounts to the wheels' interior bolt pattern.
  • #10-24 thread-forming screws are used to fasten a hub to the wheel (we suggest 6).

Missing parts? January 3, 2017
Reviewer: L Mukho from San Jose, CA
We received the box from AndyMark today, and we were hoping to use the Mecanum wheels with the Tetrix DC Motor. In the box, there were 2 left wheels and 2 right wheels. Were we supposed to receive anything else, such as metal plates or hubs or brass tubes? Because we are not sure how to attach the motor axles to these wheels.

(AndyMark Response: Feel free to contact support@andymark.com at any time for assistance with how to attach our gearboxes and wheels.)

Dancing Washer May 20, 2015
Reviewer: Richard Wallace from Benton Harbor, MI United States
Andy and Team -- As I mentioned during a visit to your FIRST CMP booth, 3620 is building a mecanum drive base to support a washing machine.  These wheels are a critical design element of that project, and we are hoping their robustness and relatively high load rating will allow us to drive the washer 'bot in stressful and interesting ways.  Will let you know more as the project proceeds.  For now, thank you very much for getting these wheels in our hands quickly at a good price.
