Product Overview:
Introducing a new gearbox from AndyMark, the CIM-Sim!

This is a lightweight gearbox designed for having two 500-series motors (aka: Fisher-Price motor), with the output shaft being similar to that of a 2.5" CIM Motor.  It is also designed to have an encoder mounted to it, no need to drill more holes!

Note: This gearbox ships as an un-assembled kit of parts.

Specifications:
  • Weight: 0.55 pounds (without motor)
  • Input: 0.125" dia. shaft
  • Output: 8mm (0.313") dia. shaft, 2mm keyway
  • Reduction Ratio: 5:1
  • Max Output Torque: To be determined
  • Gear Material: Steel
Included Hardware:

Encoder Mounting:

There is some difficulty in mounting an E4P encoder on an encoder mount pad made before January 2012.

Here is a fix for this issue.

Mounting a E4P encoder package (am-0180) into the tight space between the motors is not entirely easy.  With the older version of the Encoder Mount Pad (am-0208), the two mounting holes line up the encoder so that the cable output hits one of the motors.  We have a newer version of this Encoder Mount Pad with two new holes, which allow the encoder to be mounted so that the cable is clear of the motor.  Here is a print for the location of these two new holes.

Double-check October 31, 2012

Love the gearbox, but be sure to double-check that it was assembled properly. As shipped, the nylon spacer on one of ours was on the wrong end of the shaft, causing noise & vibration.

A great alternative to a full CIM installation.  The assembly is noisy when running.

Good products.  Took to long to get the product.  We did not use on 2012 robot.  Hopefully we can use it in the future.
