Product Overview:
This is a lightweight gearbox designed for having two 500-series motors (aka: Fisher-Price motor), with the output shaft being similar to that of a 2.5" CIM Motor.
It is also designed to have an encoder mounted to it, no need to drill more holes!
Note: This gearbox ships as an un-assembled kit of parts.
Product Usage: All AndyMark gearboxes require grease for proper operation and long life. We suggest using our red tacky grease, am-2768. We also encourage that the user powers the gearbox continuously for 30 minutes without grease to allow the gear teeth to wear in. While we do design with short run times in mind, this 'run in' period for smooth gearbox operation, is recommended. Once this is completed, thoroughly grease the gear teeth periodically to ensure smooth operation.

Encoder Mounting:
There is some difficulty in mounting an E4P encoder on an encoder mount pad made before January 2012.
Here is a fix for this issue.
Mounting a E4P encoder package (
am-3132) into the tight space between the motors is not entirely easy. With the older version of the Encoder Mount Pad (am-0208), the two mounting holes line up the encoder so that the cable output hits one of the motors. We have a newer version of this Encoder Mount Pad with two new holes, which allow the encoder to be mounted so that the cable is clear of the motor. Here is a print for the location of these two new holes.
