Product Availability:
For the 2014 Build Season, US Digital will not be able to support individual requests for these encoders: E4P, S4, E8P, E7P. We at AndyMark will be supplying the E4P encoders by continuing to offer these products: am-0174, am-0180, am-0791.

Product Overview:
This is the E4P, 360 count encoder from US Digital. Two (2) encoder kits are included in this package. This is the same package that was donated by US Digital for the 2011 FIRST Robotics Competition.

Check here for E4P assembly instructions.

Notice that this encoder has a 360-count HUBDISK, while the AndyMark part am-0174 and am-0180 uses a E4P encoder with a 250 count encoder.

Your kit includes two (2) E4P-360-250-D-D-D-B. These are miniature optical encoders with two-channel quadrature outputs. They are 360 codes per revolution and fit on a 0.25" shaft.

Included Hardware:
  • Two - Bases (US Digital Part: BASE-E4P-360-D)
  • Two - PCB Circuit Boards (PCBA-E4P-360)
  • Four - Screws (SCREW-348-250-PH)
  • Two - HUBDISK's (HUBDISK-E4P-360-250)
  • Two - Covers (COVER-E4P-360-D)
  • Two - Cables (CA-MIC4-W4-NC-3)
  • One - Spacer Tool
See the E4P web page for more information, and the FAQ page about US Digital and FIRST.

Installation tip:
If the encoder wheel slides loosely onto the 1/4" shaft, then follow this procedure to make the inside diameter of the encoder wheel collet to be slightly smaller:

Use a medium-sized pair of pliers and gently squeeze the collet portion of the encoder wheel. This is the longer protruding part of the encoder wheel with the parallel slits in the body. If you gently squeeze the sides together, equally, in 2 or 3 different locations, you can make the inside diameter of the encoder wheel slightly smaller. Then, the wheel will fit on the new shaft.

Good access to literature for installation.  Help needed in terms of how to program for though.

difficult to put on. Would have been great to come with the drill and tap needed to install them. we are still trying to get them to work. This is probablly our fault as we are a rookie team and do not know anything about these.

Too easily damaged/Too EXPENSIVE February 2, 2015

Performance is AWESOME!!  Wish it was more user friendly and RUGGED! At $40+, these encoders become a MAJOR expense for us in that they are very delicate and tend to last MAYBE 2 seasons because they tend to break when we remove them from their mountings.
