Aluminum Omni Wheels are similar in size and weight compared to Plastic Omni Wheels. There are benefits and drawbacks to each wheel:
- Aluminum Omni Wheel benefit: These wheels are repairable after a significant damaging impact has been applied to the wheel. If this happens, the aluminum wheel will bend, while the plastic wheel may crack and break.
- Aluminum Omni Wheel drawback: These wheels have a less-stable bore compared to a Plastic Omni Wheel. The Aluminum Omni Wheel can only have one ball bearing utilized in the bore of the wheel. The Plastic Omni Wheel uses two bearings, with space between the two bearings.
In summary, the Aluminum Omni Wheel has a less-stable bore, but a more robust body when compared to an AndyMark Plastic Omni Wheel.
Aluminum Omni Wheels all have body materials consisting of 3 aluminum sheets, assembled together with multiple screws. 1/8" dowels are captured within the middle plate, serving as roller axles. Brass Omni-Roler Sleeves eyelets spin on each dowel, serving as bushings for the black SBR Rollers.
These wheels can be driven by any of the AndyMark hubs, but only one hub is needed to drive a wheel. A sprocket can also drive this omni wheel, best used if combined with one of the 550 Sprocket Spacers and if a flanged ball bearing (FR8ZZ or am-0573) is pressed into the wheel.
